When you think of “Hawaii,” what do you think of?  Sand, pineapples, beach, sun, hot…how about snow?

Well if you don’t know by now, it does snow here in Hawaii, but only in the high places!  It happens during the cold season, December to March.  It is not as extreme as how it is in the states or in other countries but it does get a bit chilly.

Here are some cool pictures of a snow capped Haleakala, or “House of the Sun,” on the island of Maui taken yesterday.I did not take those pictures as I am on the island of Oahu, but I wish I could have been up there at that time.  At 10,000+ ft, its cold up there no matter what season it is, I can only imagine how cold it is up there now.

Here is a picture of the crater of Haleakala that I took last summer without snow.  It is pretty baron there, but still awesome site to see.  In the background, to the right, you can faintly see the other two dead volcano Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea on the island of Hawaii where it also snows.

If you do choose to visit Hawaii, prefrebly the island of Maui, I recommend you to go to Haleakala before sunrise.  It is an amazing experience!  All you see is the sun rising out of an ocean of clouds!
