I am still sore from Monday’s 8+ mile run.  Since the shoes I wore were pretty beat up, I decided to get new shoes!  I went out and got the Nike Shox Turbo V+.  These are one of the Nike+ shoes that connect to you iPod to show you distance you ran and calories your burned.  I like these becasue of the graffiti on the side!  They are also comfortable.

I ran the Great Aloha Run with New Balance 574s which were comfortable but then started to hurt.  I had the Nike 180+ shoes but those sucked as the air bubble in the sole broke.  Ever since those shoes broke, I have not used my Nike+ gear in about a couple months.  I am looking forward to using it again!  Below are the last stats I had, I ran way more than this, I have a lot of catching up to do!

Yesterday I ran the Great Aloha Run.  The Great Aloha Run is an 8.15 mile course that starts at Aloha Tower in downtown Honolulu and ends in Aloha Stadium near Pearl Harbor. About 17,000 people including military units from all branches participated in this run.

So, what did I plan for my girlfriend on Valentines Day?  Instead of going out, I cooked dinner for her!  I did not plan to go out because I know everywhere was going to be crazy and expensive.  It is not that I am a cheap ass, I just did not want to have a bad experience of waiting, waiters rushing us, and just the plain irritating things that goes on.

This year, I cooked for my girlfriend.  The menu was parmesan chicken with fettuccini noodles, spinach salad with a side of bread.  Since we don’t drink alcohol as much, we chose IBC cream soda.

Last night I finished up a print piece that was going into a competition.  I am not a print designer by all means so doing print work was probably my biggest headache this month!  I have a customized built PC; C2D processor with 2GB of RAM.  Its fine working for web projects, but for print, it was a nightmare!  It was times like these I wish I had a Mac.

I had to make a 20×30” motivational poster featuring my army unit’s “Espirt de Corps.”  Keep in mind I did not volunteer to do this, someone else volunteered me!  They knew I am a designer in my civilian career but what they didn’t know is that I don’t do print!  I mean, I do know some print stuff because of where I work but I don’t have extensive experience with it.  I pretty much had no choice since there was no one else available. read more…

Description: This is a 20×30″ poster made for my army unit for a competition for unit “Esprit de Corps.”  The goal of this poster is to publicize the strengths and successes of our organization.

About the piece:  It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do.  I’ve seen most military related motivational posters and they looked a bit propaganda like.  I wanted to make something artistic, fun and serious while making our unit look good.  Since we are a civil affairs unit, a unit that deals with helping displaced civilians in other countries, I wanted to us helping people yet us looking like a strong fighting force.  Our units colors are purple and gold since we are a Hawaii based unit, I added floral elements to the design.
